Luminova and FTI Festival Bring Together Light, Energy and Innovation at Thor Park

From 30 October to 8 November 2026, Thor Park in Genk will host the very first edition of Luminova. The new light festival is organized by Heleven Experience Concepts and forms part of FTI Festival Genk-Hasselt. Together, they will offer visitors a unique evening experience during the autumn holiday, with light, energy, technology, and innovation at its core. Ticket sales have officially started.

With Luminova, Genk will welcome a completely new light festival this autumn. At the historic mining site of Thor Park, an atmospheric walking route will be created where industrial heritage, light art, and innovative technology come together.
Visitors will walk past a wide variety of light installations, interactive experiences, audiovisual effects, and spectacular shows. As a result, Luminova will be more than just a visual spectacle; it will also be a place where visitors can discover, experiment with, and explore tomorrow’s technology in an accessible way.

Energy as a Unifying Force

The central theme of Luminova is energy. The route tells the story of the past, present, and future of energy, with Thor Park providing a particularly meaningful backdrop.
The former mining site was once entirely dedicated to coal mining and energy production. Today, it is evolving into an international hotspot for technology, sustainability, and innovative energy solutions. This transformation forms the common thread throughout Luminova.
During the walk, visitors will discover various zones, each bringing a different form or meaning of energy to life. Atmospheric light scenes are alternated with interactive installations and impressive shows. Light, sound, scent, movement, and technology come together in a total experience for both young and old.
“Thor Park tells a story that perfectly aligns with Luminova and FTI Festival. It is a place where Genk’s energy heritage is directly connected to innovation and the technology of tomorrow. With Luminova, we not only want to show that evolution, but also allow visitors to truly experience it,” says Kobe Heleven of Heleven Experience Concepts.

FTI Festival Becomes a Visible Part of the Experience

Luminova is part of the FTI Festival Genk-Hasselt program. The collaboration goes beyond communication and visibility: FTI will also have a concrete place within the festival’s content and visitor experience.
Throughout the route, several installations and interactive experiences developed in collaboration with FTI will be integrated. In this way, visitors can discover in a playful and accessible manner how innovation, science, technology, and energy impact our environment and future.
As a result, visitors will not only look at the installations but will also be invited to participate, experiment, and discover new applications themselves.
“FTI Festival aims to bring innovation closer to people and make it tangible for a broad audience. Luminova provides an exceptionally strong framework for this. By integrating activations into the route, an experience is created in which wonder and discovery go hand in hand,” says Marc Beenders, Festival Director of FTI.
The collaboration also strengthens the substantive connection with Thor Park, where energy research, entrepreneurship, technology, and innovation come together every day. Together, Luminova and FTI Festival are building an event that highlights both the history and the future of the location.
